9+ Emerging Ideas to Make Money as a Blogger [Earn $5000/month]

Are you a blogger and looking for some emerging ideas to make money? Well, this article is a little bit different from other ones which you generally see on the internet.

In this article, we will talk about some emerging new ways to make money as a blogger in 2021. I know that you have heard a ton of times that you can make money with Google Ads or Affiliate marketing.

I’m not denying that they are bad. Yes, you can indeed make thousands of dollars with these. But the problem is, no one is telling you the other emerging ways to make money as a blogger.

Whenever I explore on the internet, I realise that there are endless opportunities to make money as a blogger.

Do you know that these days “Creator Economy” is a buzz word in Silicon Valley? But not only there, it’s almost becoming popular in the whole world. So, there is a high chance to make money in these fields.

Therefore, we will talk about some new and emerging ways to make money online as a blogger.

But before moving further, I would like to tell you that the strategies mentioned below work equally for both Bloggers and YouTubers.

As I have said before that “Creator Economy” is a buzz word. Therefore, it doesn’t matter whether you are a YouTuber or Blogger, if you are a creator then this article is only for you.

So, let’s dive right in.

1. Make Money with Paid Newsletters as a Blogger

I don’t know if you have heard this term “Paid Newsletter” or not, but I have a good news for you that it is becoming a trend these days.

People are making money by writing with the help of Paid Newsletters.

What is a Paid Newsletter?

This question might pop up into your head, right? So, a Paid Newsletter is a monthly subscription  email campaign (that provides some sort of value) that your subscribers pay to receive. If you have a pre-built community on Twitter, YouTube or as a Blogger, then you can start a paid newsletter.

Who would give me money for newsletters?

This question was also in mind for few days until I understood this — People pay you for your experience, knowledge, and time. So, if you are giving something which is related to your own personal experience or your knowledge, then why won’t people would pay you?

But here’s the challenge that you have to provide something valuable so that people pay you monthly. Means it should have that sort of value.

Where can I start a Paid Newsletter?

Substack. It’s the perfect platform to start a paid newsletter because I have tried almost all the expensive email marketing tools out there, from Mailchimp to MailerLite. The drawback of using these expensive tools is that they charge you a fixed monthly cost. And if you’re just starting out, you don’t have money to spend on these.

Not only this, the number of your subscribers would lie heavy on you. Unlike on YouTube, you feel happy if you are increasing subscriber numbers but with email marketing tools, it costs you heavier the number of subscribers you have.

The best thing about Substack is that you don’t need to worry about the number of subscribers. You just have to pay 10% of your sale whenever someone subscribes your paid subscription.

Now, the question is — Is someone already doing it to take inspiration from?

Yes. Let me tell you in detail.

1. Normcore Tech

Earning – $3,942.35 (net of Substack fees)
No. of Subscribers – 137 paying subscribers
Monthly Income – $575

Normcore is a Substack tech newsletter. It has also provided several earning screenshots which you can see below.

2. Historic.ly

Earning – Approximately $10,000 per year
Monthly Income –  $1,000

So, it’s not like what you’re doing in your life, it’s about how you’re doing. You can take thousands of Bloggers, YouTubers, Podcasters, Instagrammers and now Substackers making money.

Whatever they’re doing is all because of their hard work and patience.

2. Creating a Membership on Patreon

Patreon is a membership platform for creators to get paid for creating a variety of content. You can give access to exclusive content, community, and insight into your creative process.

So, this is an another emerging idea to make money as a blogger. Because if you have a strong community your fans would like to pay to get access to something valuable.

I really like the story behind starting Patreon (By Silicon Valley Girl). It was started by a YouTuber who struggled to monetise it with Adsense. He thought that YouTube is not paying him to pay his bills. Now, his company is worth of $4 billion.

There are so many ways to make money as a blogger on Patreon like-

  1. Creating content specially on demand of your followers.
  2. By doing Live streams
  3. Private Chats
  4. Private Consultations

So, there are so many ways you can make money on Patreon.

How these platforms work?

Patreon provides you a personal dashboard to manage different projects. Any creator can signup on this site and design a simple membership tiers for different rewards and projects.

Now, the main question—

How much money I can make on Patreon?

Let’s take an example mention on the Patreon blog

For example, if you are a YouTuber who has 30,000 subscribers, in which only 15% are super-close to you and passionate towards whatever you’re doing. It means around 4500 subscribers.

Out of this only 1-5% would like to pay you for an on-demand extra monthly content. Means around 45-225 people. If you have a monthly subscription of $5-$7, then imagine how much money you can make at least. Around $225 at minimum, it depends on the way you work.

So, today the opportunities are endless. It doesn’t matter whether you have 1000 or 100,000 followers, you just need some passionate people who pay you in exchange for something they want.

3. Paid Webinars

This is another great idea which is emerging to make money as a blogger in 2021. As you know that due to pandemic, nearly every business has shifted online. Therefore, more and more people are working from their home these days.

But the problem is that not everyone has full time to do a complete online course. Some people are more interested towards short-term webinar like 1:1 coaching with people who they admire.

Today, as people already know that what are webinars and what is the value of it. So, as a creator you can charge for hosting some live webinars where people can actually ask you whatever they want in a short period of time.

Maybe you can do a 2 hours of webinar or a 3 hours of webinars (depends on you). And the best part is, suppose you charge $50/webinar only and only 10 people joins, you can make $500 within 2 or 3 hours. It is really a great thing according to me.

So, it as a huge potential in the near future.

One of the platform that allows you to create paid webinars is WebinarGeek. It really work well if you want to host any webinar.

Now, the MOST IMPORTANT point.

Before, you think that it’s super easy to host a webinar and make money from it. I would like to tell you that you should have to provide that amount of value in that 2-3 hours. Because these days, people are doing so much fraud with paid webinars.

They don’t focus on the quality of their content, they just think about the money. This is the blunder mistake that anyone can do.

Just think, why do you pay someone? Because you wanted something valuable from them. What is a valuable content? Content that answer your doubts and queries, isn’t it?

Therefore, if you want to host a paid webinar, get ready to provide that much quality in that 2-3 hours. It’s better to start with free webinars, when people start to trust you then you can continue with paid webinars.

4. Sell Digital Products

Now, I have already written very comprehensive articles related to selling digital products online. There are more than 21 different types of digital products which you can sell online.

You might have seen people selling digital products in the form of templates, eBooks, audio files, PDFs, Checklists, etc. So, there are endless kinds of digital products which you can sell online.

One of the very recent idea is — selling online video books just like Seeken is doing.

It just like you have to fulfil the demands of other people. And if there is a demand, there is a high possibility where you can make money.

Another great way to see what are some trending digital products is— exploring Etsy or Creative Market. These two platforms are the best to either search or sell digital products.

Some of the other popular websites are —

  1. Design Bundles
  2. Envato Market
  3. ThemeForest
  4. Template Monster
  5. Behance
  6. Dribbble
  7. Font Bundles

These are some popular websites in terms of creative and digital products.

Digital product has many advantages over physical products—

  1. It doesn’t require shipping cost.
  2. Instant download
  3. No physical space required to store
  4. No need to create product over and over again.

If you are interest in learning — How to sell any digital products? I have already written a detailed guide on this topic.

You can use some tools like Instamojo which allows you to sell digital products very easily.

5. Sell Merchandise

I believe that if you are a creator, you have audience then you can sell anything from your blog. I have seen many YouTubers selling their own merchandise. Not only YouTubers but Bloggers as well.

Merchandise doesn’t always means clothes, it can be anything like planner, notebook, coffee mugs, stickers, stationery products, etc. Don’t limit yourself by selling only clothes or shoes. Remember that if you are a creator you can sell anything because you have the power to influence your audience’s choices.

Some people thought that whatever you are selling, it must be related to your content. Yes, I agree with this point but this technique applies for only those who want to sell digital products.

For example, if you are a business blog, you can sell digital products like eBooks, courses, checklists. Because your audience need that product. But in terms of physical products, it doesn’t matter whether you are a business influencer or a fashion influencer you can still sell your personal branded T-shirts, or mugs.

So, merchandise has its own advantage, it’s upto you which products suits you the best.

6. Selling Online Courses

This is another very hot topic if you are in the Creator Economy. Selling online courses has been very profitable especially during Covid when we were locked at our homes.

People wanted to consume or learn new things. Therefore. they started purchasing online courses and that’s why, today as well it has become a new way to make money as a blogger.

selling digital products online

But where there is a huge demand, there must be a problem as well. So, the problem I have seen with these course is that some people are just making you fool by selling course which has no value.

I have seen people saying that they wasted their money by purchasing online courses.

Look,

The problem is not with selling online courses, the problem is selling “Fake Courses”. There are lots people on the internet who are selling information which is already available for free.

The lesson here you should learn is— if you want to survive for a longer period of time then you have to give that much amount of value as well.

Otherwise, no one would trust you if you fail to provide that much amount of value.

As a customer, if I see myself in the customers’ shoe I want an online course that help me in learning new things. Or just answer to my queries. That’s all!

There is no rocket science behind creating a “worth-paying” online course. You must know what your audience want.

7. Brand Deals

This way to make money is becoming so popular these days especially if you are a YouTuber or Instagrammer. The companies pay a lot to smaller influencers because smaller creators are more attached with their followers.

There have been several surveys where people were asked whether you would buy from a celebrity or an influencer. Most of their answers were— they would like to buy from a smaller creator because they trust more on them.

This is also called “Influencer Marketing”. which is a very hot topic these days. According to me, smaller creator are more relatable and we tend to buy more from them because we trust more on them.

On the other hand, if you are thinking—“Oh, I’m just an ordinary blogger, how do I get brand deals?”

So, there are so many platforms where you can easily get brand deals like—

  1. Podcorn
  2. Tribe
  3. #Paid
  4. Popular Pays

And if you belong to India, then these influencer marketing platforms would really helpful for you—

  1. Plixxo
  2. Influencer.in
  3. Pulp Key

You can simply sign up to these platforms and if your work is good, you would definitely get some brand deals.

8. Publish your own e-Magazine

This is one of my favourite idea to start a e-Magazine subscription. As a blogger, you can publish your monthly magazine by mentioning all the latest trends like in your field.

For example, if you belong to fashion niche, you can do some research for a month and then publish your magazine with your brand name.

Similarly, it works with all other niches.

Being a blogger or a YouTuber, I praise myself because I know that what is the value of correct information. If you have a community where people trust you then it’s your responsibility to overcome those expectations.

Now, the question is— How to write and publish an e-magazine?

Today, it has become an almost a zero effort process because you don’t need an expensive tools to design your magazine.

Simply, go to Canva, and start start designing your magazine. Canva has thousands of pre-made templates which you can use but still it doesn’t provide you the complete magazine design solution.

If you have no idea how to design a magazine, you can simply buy a pre-made Magazine Canva Template. These Canva template packs consists of over 70+ magazine/eBook templates.

It consists of pre-made designs, you just have to write your content so you’ll save a lot of your time.

If you are interested in learning this business you can learn more about it here.

9. Paid Social Groups

Now, this is something not very popular but paid social groups are an amazing way to generate some extra income. These groups are basically for those community members who are specialised in certain things.

For example, if you are a small business owner but you don’t have a strong networking with like-minded people. So, you can join a paid group where you can not only network with other people but also take their guidance.

Facebook groups are very popular in this segment.

Clubhouse as Paid Social Group

These days, a new social media app Clubhouse is becoming popular. It is a audio based social media platform where people can voice chat with each other. Clubhouse is great if you are planning to create a paid social group.

There are so many people who create paid social rooms. It means you have to pay to enter into that particular room.

So, if you have a very engaged community then this is another great way to make money as a blogger.

You can make a Facebook group where people can join you. There you have to start posting some values that solves problems related to your niche.

10. Sell your Expertise

Selling your expertise in the form of consultation or coaching is a great idea to make money as a blogger. Because a lot of your followers already want to guidance. So, you can fill this gap by providing your consultancy services.

This idea work well when you have a good sort of knowledge regarding your field.

For example, if you are a tech blogger, you can provide consultation services to your followers or readers. But you should have the full command over whatever you are providing.

You can charge anything around $50-$500/hour (depending on your expertise).

I really like this consultation services because a lot of time, people ask bloggers for consultation calls. And there are thousands of bloggers who are making money with this business.

Now, if you are looking for some tools then there are several different tools to provide consultations like—

  1. Google Meet
  2. Zoom
  3. Google calendar
  4. Skype
  5. Microsoft Teams
  6. Google Hangouts
  7. FaceTime
  8. Zoho Meeting
  9. Cisco Webex

Choose any one which suites you the best.

Conclusion

Hope you find the above-mentioned ideas useful to make money as a blogger.

Remember, that it doesn’t matter whatever you are doing, just focus on providing values. All the  above-mentioned ideas are only the different ways to provide value.

The medium can be different but ultimately it’s your decision what you exactly wanted to do.
